1 - Personal Biography

My name is Matthew Christeson, and I am from Wichita, Kansas. I was originally born in Germany, but I moved around a lot until I ended up in Kansas. I chose to attend KSU because of the high praise I had heard about the Engineering and Computer Science departments. I also chose to come because everyone on campus appears to be, on average, very mature and friendly. I got to meet new people in my dormitory, Haymaker. I also got to meet people in my classes, which can be very beneficial when doing assignments and projects.

I am interested in Computer Science for multiple reasons:

  1. Computers are involved in almost every field imaginable. Having a career involving computers will guarantee employment.
  2. I have always been fascinated by computers. I always wanted to learn how they work and how to create and manipulate programs and applications.
  3. My dad is an IT Specialist. He knows many things about computers and information systems. He taught me how to use computers at a very young age, and continues to educate me from time to time on new things regarding computers.
I enjoy reading, writing, creating YouTube videos, playing video games, voice acting, paintball, parkour, exercising, and helping people. I learn to do new things often, and I end up enjoying these new activities I participate in. My family is like a normal one; one mother and one father. They taught me very early on how to read, write, and do math. From then on, I taught myself how to read and write fluently, as well as expand my math skills. Having military parents has given me a sense of morals and values. "Integrity First, Service Before Self, Excellence in All We Do" are the Air Force Core Values. I learned that early on, and I continue to develop it to this day.

I didn't have any jobs outside of high school. I was part of JROTC in my high school, so I was kept busy with the positions I held. Freshman year is just the introduction, so I didn't have a position until sophomore year. Even then, I didn't have a real job in the organization until my senior year when I was promoted to Cadet 1st Lieutenant. I became the Logistics Officer, in charge of supply and equipment. I later took the position of Security Officer as well, so I was also in charge of weapons and other related gear. I had to do monthly inspections of the weapons and everything kept in supply, work with the rest of the Battalion Staff on projects and assignments, and assist in managing and training the battalion. That was my first real "job," even though I didn't get paid. It was still a memorable experience. I'll never forget it.

Being at K-State, I hope to learn many valuable things and make a difference everywhere I can. When I graduate, I want to get a well-paying and secure job (cybersecurity), as well as make many differences wherever I go.
